Studying Business Law

Law. This word might conjure up images of courtrooms, serial killers and prisons in your mind. But there is more to law than that. For instance, did you know that law governs every aspect of how every business, ranging from a small café to a tech giant like Google functions?

Companies need to ensure that they aren’t breaking the law when going about their daily business. That is why they seek legal opinion when writing employment and supplier contracts, negotiating trade agreements, making financial transactions and paying taxes and tariffs. They also need assurance that their products or services comply with safety and regulatory guidelines.

With a degree in business law, you could offer legal advice to firms from a commercial point of view. In addition to learning about law, by studying this degree, you will get to grasp the fundamentals of business and management, taxation, marketing, human resources and related subjects.

Australian universities deliver well-organised, industry-relevant programmes that are valued by employers. In fact, most of the programmes are embedded with a work experience option which involves either undertaking a work placement or completing a suitable project at an external organisation or company.

Several of Australia’s 37 universities offer programmes in business law.

Some of the universities where you could study are:

  • Monash University
  • Bond University
  • University of Sydney
  • La Trobe University
