1-minute queues at airport security!

Nobody likes queuing at the airport to get past security and customs. More so, when you have a catch super-early flight at 6 in the morning.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to massively speed up the baggage and, passenger checking processes? That’s what researchers at the University of Tasmania in Australia have accomplished.

They invented a device called GreyScan. It is the world’s first trace-detection device that can identify inorganic explosives in under a minute, and its use in mass transit locations such as airports and train stations could help make Australia and the world safer.

Australian universities work very closely with the government and industry. The University of Tasmania is no different. The technology was invented by a team led by the University’s researchers and developed in strategic partnership with Grey Innovation, Australian Federal Police, National Institute of Forensic Science, Australian Customs Service and US Homeland Security.

This is just one example of world-class and impactful research taking place at the University of Tasmania. The university’s main campus is located in Hobart, on the island territory of Tasmania, a regional area. It ranks among the top 300 universities in the world (QS World Rankings 2019). Most of the programmes offered by the university are accredited and industry-relevant. The university also offers generous scholarships to meritorious students.
